Pristella Tetra

The Pristella Tetra, also known as the X-ray Tetra, is a beautiful and popular freshwater fish that is sure to add a splash of color to any aquarium. With its striking silver body and distinctive black stripe running from its head to its tail, this tetra is a true standout.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Pristella Tetra is its peaceful nature. These fish are known for their friendly and non-aggressive behavior, making them an excellent choice for community tanks. They get along well with other peaceful species and are compatible with a wide range of tank mates, including other tetras, guppies, and rasboras.

In addition to their peaceful temperament, Pristella Tetras are also relatively easy to care for. They are a hardy species, able to adapt to a variety of water conditions. However, they do prefer slightly acidic water with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. It is important to maintain a stable water temperature between 72°F and 80°F to ensure the optimal health and well-being of these fish.

When it comes to feeding, Pristella Tetras are not picky eaters. They will readily accept a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods. To keep them healthy and vibrant, it is recommended to provide them with a balanced diet that includes a mix of high-quality flake food, live or frozen brine shrimp, and daphnia.

One of the most captivating features of the Pristella Tetra is its unique appearance. The silver body of the fish has a translucent quality that gives it a shimmering effect, resembling an X-ray. This is where the common name "X-ray Tetra" comes from. The black stripe that runs horizontally across its body adds a striking contrast and enhances its overall beauty.

In terms of size, Pristella Tetras are relatively small, reaching an average length of 1.5 to 2 inches. This makes them suitable for smaller aquariums and a great choice for beginner fish keepers. They are also known to be active swimmers, adding movement and energy to any tank.

Breeding Pristella Tetras can be a rewarding experience for hobbyists. They are egg layers and require a separate breeding tank for successful reproduction. The water in the breeding tank should be slightly acidic with a temperature between 75°F and 80°F. The female tetras will scatter their eggs
